- Before anyone says anything:

Going by Data Squad, Warp Digivolve doesn't mean "Digivolve to Mega." It means "skip one or more levels." Going from Rookie to Ultimate counts as Warp Digivolving, since he skipped over Champion.

I think when they change shape (digivolve), their codes alter to benefit the new form, removing un-needed codes, such as powers and moves but some digivolutions keep the majority if those codes and change the shape and power, eg Agumon to Greymon
